How I increased my productivity by switching off mobile data when not needed

Now lets admit — how many times we just checked our phone for any notifications and ended up watching cat videos in youtube or endlessly scrolling through the twitter feed???

Nope!! I am not saying that this is the only way to increase productivity.

But, recent stats show that 62% of people check their phone 162 times/day and 76.5% people think they are addicted to phones. So, there’s a quite a good probability that it is hampering our productivity.

How it happens

“The only path by which another person can upset you is through your own thought.” ― Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

Subconscious is just a slave and it obeys what you (cognitive brain) order and behaves as you teach it. (not to undermine the immense capabilities of subconscious). The point is, anything you do for more than 21 days regularly becomes a habit, meaning it gets hard wired in to your subconscious.

We all know the power of habit!!. → So, this habit of mine of which is to check my phone unknowingly or rather sometimes needlessly has been stopping me from performing to the best of my ability.

I observed this on multiple occasions where a task of mine at workplace took longer than I would usually take. Or at my home, where I was just lying on the couch doing no productive thing for longer durations. It was all because I was hooked to my phone as a HABIT.

I am not running for the Elixir of life nor I wanted become successful by sacrificing little fun things which makes life. But I also don’t want to live in virtual reality so much, that I am not making the best of my real time.

Heres what I did:

II decided to switch off my mobile data when not needed. I was shocked to see how many times my subconscious took my hand to the phone and I realized,

“oh, the internet is off”!!!.

And of course, when it is off, I got back to my errands as usual. This helped me not to divert from my work and also give quality time to my family and friends.

Yes, there will be people who will say,

“you can still be focused when your mobile data is off — you just have to have self control”.

Well, it is good for you guys, you are in the lucky bracket!!. But for me, I cannot say it hampered my productivity, but I am sure not performing to the best of my ability.

We always want to be updated and get notified about everything in this digital era — But at what cost??

I am still not completely doing it, but it definitely has helped me so far. So I decided to write about it.
